1. Structured walk, no sniffing, no marking, no soiling, no lunging, no barking, no greeting, when you stop the dog sits. The dog eliminates when you allow it one time when out. Excessive marking isn’t allowed. 2. Place-No free Roaming in the house; your dog should be in “place” or in his/her crate. 3. Crate, on command, stay until released after you open the door (they should not rush out) until you release them, crate the dog when your home for a couple hours on and off throughout the day, This helps with separation anxiety 4. Control the space in your home. The dog doesn’t always need to be with you. Put them in their “Place” this builds confidence and helps with separation anxiety 5. Keep your dog calm when inside your home 6. When you arrive home stop greeting with excitement; dog is greeted last and calmly. No big exits, NO big entrances KEEP IT CALM. 7. Cut down on the verbal, physical, and treat praise. Lower the excitement Remember: YOU GET WHAT YOU PET 8. Free Play inside: your dog may have free play after potty break outside for about 20/30 min. They he/she must be in his/her crate or in place.
Basic Commands
These are commands that we focus on at “Thurman’s Place"
• SIT: permanent • DOWN: permanent • NO-anything you don’t want the dog to do a stern NO! (not yelling) • PLACE: to go to their “place” and stay until told released “Ok, Free, Break” • HEEL: to stay by your side during your structured walk • OK/FREE/BREAK: finished with command they are “free to go” • HERE/COME: to leave whatever they are doing and come to you • LET’S GO: Pay attention follow you (start your structured walk) • THIS WAY: to pay attention and switch directions (used when walking) • KENNEL/Kennel Up: go to your kennel • OUT/Give: to give something to you from their mouth
