What vaccines is my dog required to have before coming to Thurman’s Place?
We require Bordetella (kennel cough), Flu vaccine, yearly negative fecal, Distemper, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis (we are on a farm with a creek), and Rabies.
Do you pick up and drop off?
YES! We know we are out of the way for most of our clients, so we offer pickup and delivery service for all of our dogs (within a 50mile radius of 37098)!
There is a small fee per pet each way.
What time will the van service be here to pick-up/drop-off my dog?
We love to be as accommodating as we possibly can, due to this we receive a lot of last-minute requests.
We plan out our van service route the evening before, so you will receive a time frame the evening before pick-up or drop-off.
Our route is typically between 8A-11A but can always be later depending on how many pups we have on route that day.
We highly discourage using the van service on days of travel due to unforeseen travel delays that can occur.
What is Stim?
Unlike most traditional "shock collars" our ecollars use a form of stimulus that targets the neck muscles of the dog - like TENS for humans!
We work with positive reinforcement on lower levels, so it's a GOOD thing!
Why is your E-Collar Program 4 weeks?
We spend the first couple weeks introducing them to their 'new rules' and teach them how to use their new ecollar.
We spend the last couple of weeks improving their ecollar fluency and exposing them to new experiences so they know how to behave in all different environments.
My Remote/Collar is not working?
Make sure it's on and linked!
Hold down the "L" button on the back of your remote until your LCD screen says "On" then touch the red dot on the remote to the red dot on your ecollar.
You should see a green light on your ecollar.
Press the "T" button - if you hear a beep, you're all set!
My plans have changed. Do you charge for cancellations?
NO!
We understand life happens; we just like to have at least 24 hours notice if possible!
My dog doesn't like other dogs, can he still train & board there?
Absolutely!
As long as your dog doesn't present a threat to our staff, we manage possible interactions and work with your dog individually or in a muzzle.
Safety is the utmost importance here for your dog and others, so we take precautions!
Will the Ecollar freak out my nervous dog?
No!
The way we use the ecollar is beneficial for even the most nervous dogs!
Since we use such low stimulus, nervous dogs actually do great on their ecollar because it gives them clear communication from their human - "don't worry about that" and actually brings confidence to nervous & shy dogs.
How many dogs do you take at once?
Our kennel has a capacity of 100, most of which are filled with boarding dogs over the holidays.
On a regular basis, we have 4-6 rescues, 12-18 dogs in training, and the rest 20-30 are here on vacation.
With 18 people on staff plus Karen & her helpful family, the dogs get hours of engagement, training, structured walks, and hikes!
So whether we have 20 dogs or 100, your dogs will always get the attention they need & deserve.
Do I have to use the Ecollar forever?
Some dogs will fall into their balanced lifestyle with little resistance, others will challenge the rules from time to time.
We recommend to always use your ecollar!
Even for those well-behaved dogs, remember, the ecollar is communication and a seat belt!
Buckle up every time you leave the house and have that peace of mind for those *just in case* moments.
